Guy Fieri's knives now at Dillard's, more to come

We first heard of Guy Fieri's association with Ergo Chef knives in April of 2009. Two months later, the announcement was made that Guy's company, Knuckle Sandwich, designed a set of two knives with Ergo Chef, released in August of 2009 - a chef's knife, "The Big Stick," and utility knife, "The Dragon Dagger."

In March of 2010, two more knives were added to the set - a santoku blade, "The Chopper" and a paring knife, "The Lil' Guy."

Dillard's 310 locations are now carrying Guy Fieri's four Knuckle Sandwich knives in their stores, and Bed Bath & Beyond Online is carrying Guy's line plus all of Ergo Chef's Pro-Series Knives.

Visit your local Dillard's store and ask about the Ergo Chef / Knuckle Sandwich line of knives, or visit them online at www.dillards.com.

*Update* Guy Fieri is scheduled to make an appearance at Dillard's near Fort Worth, TX, on Friday, November 5, 2010. (source)

Mike Staib, VP of cutlery sales and marketing at Ergo Chef, LLC., recently shared with us that a few additions will be made to the line, new products ready for release in the coming months.

"Steak knives have been a long development process and manufacturing process," Staib wrote. "An average product takes from 6 months at best up to 1 year to produce from the point of having a final design."

The new Knuckle Sandwich steak knives are elegantly designed with Guy Fieri's star logo along an all-black handle. The steak knives will be available in a 4-piece set for $65.00. Mike Staib promises, "these are serious durable steak knives!"

Also a new 17-slot knife block will be added to the collection. "The Battle Station Block" is uniquely designed to hold necessary culinary tools for any great chef or home cook - a meat thermometer and a zester/grater or full-sized Microplane®.

The Battle Station Block also holds 5 kitchen knives, 8 steak knives, a pair of kitchen scissors, an oval sharpening steel or round honing steel.

The steak knives and knife block will be available for puchase in the 2nd week of November, 2010. Limited quantities for the Holidays! To find out more, visit www.ergochef.com, www.Foodnetworkstore.com, www.cooking.com and www.legourmetchef.com.

What's coming next down the Ergo Chef / Knuckle Sandwich chute? Staib clued us in. Notice that The Battle Station Block has "one slot for Guy’s new 6.5-inch Meat Cleaver, coming out February 2011. ... It’s nicknamed 'The Beast.'”

Sorry, no pictures are available yet! But fans can get a sneak peak of "The Beast" on the new season episodes of Guy’s Big Bite this fall and winter. Watch for The Beast!

Guy Fieri, and others, on the restaurant industry

As the second largest private-sector employer in the country, America's restaurants are an economic force, but that statistic doesn't fully tell the story of the millions of individuals who are living the American Dream by working in our industry. This video captures a few poignant stories that help tell the 'Industry of Opportunity' story. - http://restaurant.org.

*Link to video*

Quotes:
"I think I was about ten. And it was put to me that if I didn't like the way we ate as a family, I could do the cooking. That's what started it all.

... No matter what happens, being in this industry, I can feed my family; I can make them great food. It's the greatest thing in the world....

... I wanted to open my first restaurant before I was 30. I wanted to make my first million by the time I was 40. I wanted to retire by the time I was 50. It has been ... storybook.

... You show me somebody that comes from the restaurant business, I'll show you somebody who can do anything."

Tailgate Warriors, 4-part series, airs in October 2010

Tailgate Warriors with Guy Fieri premieres Wednesday, October 20th at 10pm ET on the Food Network.

Taped in August and September in Seattle, Oakland and New Orleans, the series culminates in a championship round where teams battle it out for a $50,000 price. Each week, two teams must create two appetizers, one entrée, two sides and one dessert in an hour. They will be judged by a three-person panel and scored based on taste, creativity, difficulty, and presentation.

Premieres: Wednesday, October 20th at 10pm - Packers v. Seahawks
The battle on the gridiron may be rough when the Green Bay Packers take on the Seattle Seahawks, but it’s nothing compared to the action going on outside the stadium. Guy Fieri throws down the gauntlet and searches for the best tailgate teams in the country. This round, teams from Green Bay and Qwest Field take on the top team from Seattle in a one-hour competition to see who has the most killer grub at the game.

Premieres: Wednesday, October 27th at 10pm - 49ers v. Raiders
On the hunt for the country’s best tailgate team, Guy Fieri visits the San Francisco 49ers as they take on their neighbors, the Oakland Raiders. In this round, Guy visits his hometown, as the top tailgate team from San Francisco heads across the bay to take on the top team from Oakland in a one-hour competition to see who moves on to round three.

The final two episodes premiere on Wednesday, November 3rd - Vikings v. Saints at 10pm and a repeat of Bears v. Bills on Wednesday, November 10th at 10pm ET.

Asphalt Chef Grilling Competition, November in Texas

Superstar celebrity chef Mario Batali is teaming up with Speedway Children's Charities-Texas Chapter to present the Asphalt Chef cooking competition and his Ultimate Tailgate Party during November's AAA Texas 500 NASCAR triple-header weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.

On Saturday, November 6, 2010, 6-9:00 p.m. CT - The Asphalt Chef will be the centerpiece of the two-day charity drive, featuring celebrity chefs paired with NASCAR guests in a cooking competition, poolside at Texas Motor Speedway's Lone Star Tower clubhouse.

Guy Fieri will work with 2004 Sprint Cup Series champ Kurt Busch, "Iron Chef" champion and Fort Worth resident Tim Love will be paired with Foreigner's lead singer Kelly Hansen and Mario Batali will partner with four-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson.

ABC-TV/ESPN NASCAR pit reporter Dave Burns, a self-admitted "foodie," will serve as the emcee of the event, which benefits the Speedway Children's Charities and the Mario Batali Foundation.

The format is modeled after the popular "Iron Chef" television show -- where the world's premier chefs battle each other and the clock to earn the ultimate bragging rights -- but this event possesses a few wrinkles, such as the team concept.

A secret ingredient will be unveiled just prior to the competition and the teams will have five minutes to conceptualize a recipe. They will then go head to head and will have 20 minutes to produce a dish with the secret ingredient. The dishes will be presented to a special judging panel, graded in various categories, and the winning team will receive an oversized, orange Mario Batali peppermill trophy and $5,000 to be designated to their favorite charity.

Ticket holders will enjoy complimentary wine, beer and spirits as well as food, including a special dish from each of the celebrity chefs, as well as live and silent auctions showcasing items and packages from the chefs, drivers and sponsors of the event. Kelly Hansen will be joined by band member and bassist Jeff Pilson to perform a few acoustic versions of their songs that evening.

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, 10 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Batali will host ario Batali's Ultimate Tailgate Party, poolside at the clubhouse, featuring complimentary food from various major restaurants in the Metroplex as well as wine, beer and spirits. Batali, Guy Fieri and Tim Love also will conduct cooking demonstrations followed by a Q&A session with the guests.

A combination ticket is available for both Asphalt Chef and Mario Batali's Ultimate Tailgate Party at $350. Individual tickets are $250 for Asphalt Chef and $150 for the Mario Batali's Ultimate Tailgate Party. Capacity is limited for both events. The events benefit Speedway Children's Charities and the Mario Batali Foundation and are tax deductible.

For tickets or additional information, please contact Speedway Children's Charities at (817) 215-8421 or visit www.scctexas.org.

Triple D chefs entertain troops

This post is more Diners, Drive-ins and Dives related than Guy Fieri related. But I thought that this would be an appropriate 9/11 post, and fans of Triple D might like to know ....

According to the San Jose Murcury News, this October the Navy has invited America's Chefs to bring six chefs to the U.S. military stations. Four of the chefs are straight from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

The purpose of the visits is to provide entertainment, education and boost morale through culinary related shows and demonstrations for the U.S. military and their families.

Representing Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives are chefs Rich Bacchi of Gorilla Barbeque (Smokin' BBQ), Hodad of Hodad's (Seaside Eats), Panini Pete of Panini Pete's (Real Deal Fast Food), and Stretch of Grinders & Grinders West (Off the Hook Specials).

CJ Jacobson of The Yard, Santa Monica and Ryan Scott, private chef, San Francisco from Bravo's Top Chef are included.

In early August 2010, America's Chefs tested the show at Fleet Week, during the annual Seattle Seafair, with rave reviews from the crowd.

For more, read the full article, or visit America's Chefs' website, Facebook or Twitter.

------------------------------------

Related, the Minute to Win It season finale is on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 7/8c, featuring injured Iraqi War veterans Ed Salau and Andy Butterworth. The episode title is "America's Heroes."

"Minute to Win It" T-shirt now available

Minute to Win It merchandise is officially available. At the time of this writing, only one item is in NBC's online store for the show - a logo'd T-shirt.

Sizes available are Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large, priced at $25. Visit http://www.nbcuniversalstore.com for this and future Minute to Win It merchandise.

We also wanted to add that we think the names of some of the games would make great T-shirts. Who wouldn't want to wear a "Sticky Balls" T-shirt for a night out on the town? No? How about "Bottoms Up" pajamas? "Bucket Head" hat? Or perhaps a "Hanky Panky" swimsuit?

C'mon NBC, get on it! Haha.

In other merchandise news, Guy Fieri's chef knife is now available through Target's online store, Target.com.

Also at Target.com, Guy Fieri and Ann Volkwein's two books, "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and "More Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, as well as "Food Network: Best Of Grilling," a video collection of grilling tips with Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence and more, on DVD.

Guy Fieri on wine, in new book by Mark Oldman

Guy Fieri is one of the many celebrity wine lovers to be profiled in Mark Oldman’s new book, Oldman's Brave New World of Wine. In the book, Guy discusses his favorite wines, the greatest food and wine pairings, and several (hilarious) wine-infused experiences.

Once at the Superbowl, I sabered open a bottle of Dom PĂ©rignon with only a butter knife—and my friends were amazed. My wife came by and asked, “What are you doing?” And I told her: “I’m kicking off the Superbowl, baby!”
—Guy Fieri

His comments join those from dozens of other notable wine lovers, including actors Hilary Swank and Matthew McConaughey, novelist Jay McInerney, designer Zac Posen, and even Bill Nye, the "Science Guy."

Oldmand's Brave New World of Wine is a fun-filled and carefully-researched tour of the best, most affordable, and most adventurous wines from around the globe, available at www.amazon.com. For more information, visit MarkOldman.com.
