Fan questions, Mid-June 2011

Recently I added a new page to this blog, Have a Question? At the end of each month (and sometimes part-way thru!), I'll share what fans are asking and what answers I could find for them. [Some answers are edited for brevity. ~D]

Connye from Campbell asked, "I would love to know exactly what model of sunglasses and (if in fact they are Gatorz) style, color, etc. that Guy Fieri is wearing on the cover of the Costco Connection June 2011 magazine, Vol. 26, Number 6. They appear to be copper colored, and look like Gatorz, however I searched high and low for them and could not find them online. Guy is wearing these sunglasses while standing at the grill cooking his Bloody Mary Flank Steak smiling and pointing during his photoshoot coverage of Celebrity chefs serving up their favorite summer recipes (page 28). Would love to know where to buy Guy's sunglasses-they are so cool! Thanks!"

Our answer: We know the ones - Guy Fieri featured in Costco Connection. Turns out, Gatorz custom designed those sunglasses for Guy Fieri, and they are not available for purchase. Check out these similar ones frames, or Guy Fieri's signature Gatorz shades.

Michele from Castle Rock wrote, "I bought the Costco tri tip.... I do not see the cooking instructions, help?"

Our answer: here are some suggestions for Tri-tip from Guy Fieri.
Santa Maria Tri-Tip - recipe
Spicy Tangerine Beef - recipe
Johnny Garlic's Grilled Peppered Steak with Cabernet Balsamic Sauce - recipe
Best of luck! And let us know how it goes

Karen, 35 year old Hodgkin's Lymphoma Survivor from Mesa wrote, "Guy: I attended your ROCKIN' Food tour in Mesa, AZ. It was awesome! I wanted to express to you the sadness I felt when you told us about the loss of your sister. I have recently been fighting my own battle against cancer, and your story touched me."

Our reply: Thank you for your kind words. Keep up the good fight!

Ginger from Chico asked, "What pasta recipe did Guy make when he was a contestant on Next Food Network Star? Bob Tushman said he liked it so much that he couldnt stop thinking about it. Would Guy share that recipe with me? I would like to try it!
Love your shows, Johnny Garlics (Roseville) and books Guy! You've got such an awesome personality, also love that you're a family guy."

Our answer: Guy Fieri's signature dish was Cajun Chicken Alfredo. Click here for the recipe! He made it on one of the first episodes of Guy's Big Bite in 2007, Kickin' Cajun Alfredo (GI0102), and it used to be (maybe still is?) on Johnny Garlic's menu. :)

Libbie from Charlotte asked, "How do the places featured on DDD get chosen? Surely there is a pre-production team that eats there first and plays canary? Just curious. It always looks like Guy just shows up and finds all this fabulous food. What's the real process?"

Our answer: Check out Guy's book, "More Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" on HarperCollins.com. Just below the picture of the book, click on "Read Now"

Scroll through to Page 6, where the executive producer, David Page, writes about "What It Takes to Pull off Triple D" and "How We Find the Funky." I think you'll be surprised how much work it takes!

Her reply: Thanks for the quick response Dora! DDD is one of the most authentically entertaining and tummy-rumbling shows I've ever seen. Guy is livin' my dream, traveling, eating, cooking and laughing a lot. No, my dream would be to work with the team. No my dream would be to get past chemo (soon!) and not ever have cancer again. But the silver lining of being home and recovering is my new obsession with the Food Network and DDD. Really ironic that I'm so obsessed with the Food Network since I have no appetite, but I think Guy and his DDD show have given me hope that I will, once again, eat with abandon!

Please let him know he has made one woman in Charlotte NC living to be hungry again and if he comes back [to Charlotte], it will be my good luck and pleasure to tell him personally if there's any chance.

Mandy from Finley asked, "Do you ever plan on doing a show from North Dakota? I live your show and would love to see you do a show from mt home state."

Our answer: Right now, future tapings of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives episodes is on hold, pending a lawsuit between the executive producer (Page Productions) and the Food Network. Until the issue is resolved, no research is being done for new states and locations.

We'll post more on Fans of Guy Fieri when we know more! Til then, hang tight.
